Between natural and technological
Hides and skins for this winter make up a proposal with more outstanding textures -reptiles, geometric, wefts, etc.- that are generally reworked with various finishes that add aesthetic content. Even so, it is about exalting the naturalness of the materials, even respecting original characteristics, such as their own porosities and irregularities, or the impact of use and time in aged, ruined, worn-out, etc.
On the other hand, there are the finishes of advanced technologies that result in a more industrialized and formal aesthetic, where smooth surfaces predominate, between shiny and opaque. Some of these examples are patent-leather and suede.
In general, the materials for winter gain in thickness, which in addition to textures add fur, laminates and various textile supports. Among them, the double layer surfaces -leather/fur- frequently used in footwear and manufactures stand out.
Matelassés and with seams are common, with or without inner padding for quilting. Also embossed contribute to highlight the reliefs, which opt for retro and ornamental motifs, or uniform wefts.
With the new technologies available, greater aesthetic developments are noticed. Thus, the visual content of materials often takes on a higher importance than their physical properties.
Unlimited creativity
Synthetic and laminated materials exhibit woven and non-woven supports that improve the conditions of warmth and protection, while on their outer surface they present an infinite range of finishes. In addition to the imitation leathers, there are squared, striped, reptile, three-dimensional, textiles engravings, etc.
Although there are occasional glitters, opaque finishes predominate that reinforce the warm character of the materials. The aesthetic includes plain colors and sober prints, while for fashion products, a trend is observed for diffuse and fantasy motifs, in suggestive games of colors and shapes.
Vintage inspired
With a greater participation in the manufacture of footwear, textiles also offer an endless range of products. Among them are velveteens, corduroy, thin canvases, cloths, velvets, neoprene, etc. Each with different motifs such as striped, Scottish, herringbone, as well as plain and flecked.
Various alternatives emerge from these lines, such as handcrafted cloths, with an elegant rusticity and color. Corduroys and patterned velvets, along with tweeds, pied de poule and Prince of Wales. Plush and felts are called to play a leading role, while technological fabrics such as neoprene and ripstop are growing in demand for sports and outdoor footwear.
