Curtiembres Búfalo closes after 87 years
Located in Barranquilla, in northern Colombia, the company ceased operations following a judicial seizure due to insolvency, leaving over 300 workers unemployed.
Both executives and union representatives attribute the closure to heavy tax pressures and internal mismanagement. In 2000, the tannery began a period of significant expansion in the local market, reaching a production of 80,000 hides per month, with suedes as its flagship product. Over the years, the company expanded into international markets, securing substantial export volumes to brands in the United States, Europe, and Asia.
In 2024, the situation became unsustainable as its accounts were seized, preventing the company from meeting its tax and utility obligations.
