In Argentina, NIKE factory paralyzes its production due to lack of supplies

This is the Brazilian company DASS en Misiones, and jobs are at risk.

A generalized situation in the Argentine industry, due to the lack of dollars and the impossibility of dealing with import payments.

The industrial plant of the DASS group, based in Eldorado in the province of Misiones, was forced to stop its production due to the lack of imported supplies, as a result of the exchange restrictions in force in Argentina. The establishment has already been without activity for 2 days, having suffered a similar situation in the previous week.

The factory has the capacity to produce 14,000 pairs per day, with 587 workers. In addition to NIKE, the company holds licenses for FILA, UMBRO and ASICS brands. It also has another plant in Coronel Suárez, province of Buenos Aires, where it produces for ADIDAS. There the activity is normal.

Last August, the factory in Misiones, due to the impossibility of accessing imported supplies and ceasing production, had to fire 100 workers, and after negotiations with the union and the government, reinstated the staff.

Since the start of operations in Argentina in 2007, the Brazilian group DASS has invested US$ 160 million producing exclusively for the local market.

From UTICRA, the union that brings together footwear workers, they were hopeful that in the coming days access to dollars will be unlocked and supplies will arrive to restart activity.

It should be noted that most of the supplies imported by DASS are of Brazilian origin, consisting of uppers, soles and other components for manufacturing.

If the situation is dilated, fears of probable dismissals and suspensions resurface.
