Recycling old HAVAIANAS

An ambitious circular economy program aims to repurpose and recycle used products.

ALPARGATAS Brazil, the manufacturer of HAVAIANAS -sandals and flip-flops-, has launched a recycling and logistics program called reCICLO, designed to give a new life cycle to worn-out footwear. This initiative is a partnership with Trashin, a startup specializing in waste management and associated work cooperatives, providing additional income opportunities for many families.

The process begins at collection points in participating stores, where users and customers drop off their used products. These items are then transported to cooperatives, where they are sorted to determine the final destination of the collected material. Sandals at the end of their lifecycle are sent for recycling, with the materials repurposed into carpets, tires, and various other items.
