Footwear fairs in Bucaramanga. Enthusiasm for results obtained

EXPOCUERO 2022, the international leather, footwear and leather goods fair, organized by Expoasoinducals at the Neomundo Convention Center and EXPOCALZADO at the Club de Comercio of Bucaramanga, last July, produced positive results for its participants, improving their prospects for the coming months, in the face of an evident recovery in the sector.

Bucaramanga is the capital of the department of Santander, in the north of Colombia, recognized as an important footwear production center, made up of about 1,500 companies, mostly medium and small, that generate 2,700 direct jobs and 1,200 indirect jobs.

Almost 500 exhibitors from the Santander region participated in both fairs and more than 4.8 million pairs were sold, at an average of 42 thousand Colombian pesos per pair (US$ 9.5). Important contacts obtained with large companies such as Croydon, Bata, Calza Costa, Latina and Vélez must be added, which have projected purchases of more than a million pairs.

Local and international buyers

In addition to a good influx of buyers from Antioquia, Cundinamarca, Norte de Santander, Valle del Cauca and other departments of the country, visitors from Guatemala, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Venezuela, Trinidad and Tobago, Aruba, Curaçao and Peru were added.

In particular, the arrival of 32 Venezuelan buyers stood out, who placed orders for 600 million Colombian pesos (US$ 136 thousand). This opens up positive expectations regarding the process of the new government for the reopening of the border with Venezuela, a historic buyer of Colombian footwear, which would reactivate the value chain of the industry.
