In Italy: MICAM confirms its international leadership

Within the set of sector-specific fairs, the footwear event received 21% more visitors than in its previous edition.


The premier global footwear event demonstrated market recovery within a context of widespread reconfiguration in the international sector.

Italy became the global fashion industry's meeting point.

Throughout the month of September, eight fairs were held, commencing with DaTE, focused on avant-garde eyewear, from September 9th to 10th in Florence.

Subsequently, the Fieramilano Rho event center in Milan played host to the jewelry, costume jewelry, and fashion accessories sector with HOMI FASHION AND JEWELS, held from Friday the 15th to Monday the 18th.

During the week of the 17th to the 20th, the same venue accommodated the MICAM MILANO footwear show, MIPEL for leather goods and fashion accessories, and TheOneMilano showcasing clothing.

In terms of suppliers, LINEAPELLE, a fair focused on leather, hides, fabrics, synthetics, components, and accessories, and SIMAC TANNING TECH, an exhibition of machinery and technology for the footwear, manufactured goods, and tanning industry, took center stage. From September 19th to 21st, both were accompanied by the proposal geared towards high-end leather goods, MIPEL Lab.

Synergy facilitated a larger turnout

On this occasion, the four fairs showcasing finished products at Fieramilano Rho (HOMI FASHION AND JEWELS, MICAM MILANO, MIPEL, and TheOneMilano) featured a total of 2,000 exhibitor brands.

Regarding attendance, there were 42,273 visitors from 129 represented countries, including France, Spain, Germany, the United States, China, Japan, and Canada. This figure marked a 21% growth compared to the September 2022 event, as reported by the fair's organizers.

MICAM MILANO: An international footwear reference

The 96th edition of the Italian footwear fair unfolded under the theme "WALK YOUR WAY," an invitation to embrace individuality, personal style, and wear shoes with pride, as detailed by the fair's president, Giovanna Ceolini.

In a deeper reflection, Ceolini added, "MICAM drives the recovery of the national footwear sector and plays a key role for the affirmation of our companies that need trade fair support to establish themselves and develop in international markets”.

In this regard, the fair featured the presence of 1,024 brands, with 504 of them hailing from international origins, representing more than 30 participating countries.

Spain claimed the top spot in the rankings, with a delegation of 108 companies, resulting in nearly a 10% year-on-year increase, according to the Spanish Footwear Industries Federation (FICE). Imanol Martínez, the General Director of FICE Servicios, explained: "This high participation reflects the clear commitment of the Spanish footwear sector to internationalization and underscores the importance of MICAM as a reference event in their expansion strategies".

Latin America also made its presence known through the Brazilian delegation, ranking third in importance at the fair. The 76 brands aimed to secure business exceeding $30 million.

Paola Pontin, Commercial Promotion Analyst from the Brazilian Association of Footwear Industries (ABICALÇADOS), noted: "In addition to Europeans, Brazilian brands received visits from buyers from the Middle East, Asia, Oceania, and the Americas. It was a highly internationalized MICAM MILANO."

Latin America was further highlighted through the EMERGING DESIGNERS project, which included Mosca Shoes from Argentina, Daniela Uribe from Colombia, and Room from Brazil, among nine other young designers who presented their collections.

Calendar for 2024

In its 97th edition, MICAM MILANO will showcase trends for Autumn/Winter from February 18th to 21st of the following year, while collections for Spring/Summer will be displayed from September 15th to 18th.
