SAPICA projected Mexican footwear to the international market

A new edition of the footwear traditional fair in León/Gto., received local buyers and from more than 25 countries.


The inauguration of SAPICA in the Poliforum of León, Gto., was attended by the highest authorities, leaders and industrialists in the sector.

The Chamber of the Footwear Industry of the State of Guanajuato (CICEG) celebrated the 81st edition of SAPICA -Footwear, Leather and Fashion- between August 27 and 30, 2019, at the Poliforum León exhibition center in Guanajuato, Mexico.

The event was attended by 850 exhibitors in an area of 45 thousand square meters, where around 2 thousand stands were arranged.

The layout of the exhibition was structured in nine pavilions with Casual, High Fashion, Lady Dress, Cowboy, Sports, and Child footwear, to which the one of Leather Goods, Developing Companies and the Knowledge Pavilion were added.

From the SAPICA organization, they estimated an exhibition of more than 97,000 items, such as sneakers, moccasins, casual and cowboy boots, ballerinas, school shoes, sandals, safety shoes, specialized and for athletes, among others. In the leather goods and clothing sector were exhibited bags, purses, backpacks, belts, briefcases, pants, skirts, jackets and vests, etc.

International presence

In this edition, 3,037 unique buyers were part of the exhibition. Among them, 2,867 were nationals of more than 30 locaties; while 170 international buyers came from countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, France, Spain, Italy, South Korea, Taiwan, Panama, Ecuador, Peru, Colombia and Brazil, among others.

Within the parallel activities, the Knowledge Pavilion had an influx of 1,966 people, which marks the interest in this space. Thus, comparatively with the same edition of 2018, there was an increase of 12.7% of attendees, added to 15.4% compared to March this year.

​With government support

In the opening ceremony, the predominant discourse was to encourage joint work between government agencies and companies, in order to generate greater competition and promotion to the sector. Participated in the act, the governor of the State of Guanajuato -Diego Sinhué Rodríguez Vallejo-, the mayor of León -Héctor López Santillana-, the head of the Tax Administration System -Dr. Margarita Ríos-, the president of SAPICA -Raúl Horner- and the President of CONCAMIN -Grad. Francisco Cervantes Díaz-, among other officials.

Fashion and knowledge

On the one hand, the Knowledge Pavilion programming included topics such as e-commerce, consumption trends, technology for innovation, neuro-processes and business strategies. In addition, trends in materials for the Fall/Winter season 20-21 were presented; added to the commercial and Future Talents catwalks, by students who had the opportunity to showed their creations.

On the other hand, the second day of the event closed with the “México es Moda” catwalk. Among the designers who participated, the Simple by Trista's clothing was accompanied by Coca Cola Shoes and Cciclu in footwear. Then Armando Takeda's proposals followed, with Yamamoto bags and Boullevard shoes. The Bernarda brand was complemented with shoes by Patey Woman and Giusto.
