SAPICA exceeds expectations and internationalization of the sector grows

The footwear and manufactured goods fair in León, Gto. Mexico received more buyers, in full recovery stage.

The exhibition once again concentrated the best of the Mexican industry for its domestic and international market.

The Leather and Footwear Show held its 88th edition between March 7th and 9th, 2023, at the Poliforum León fairgrounds in Guanajuato and was developed under the motto #ExploreNewWorlds.

The exhibition organized by the Chamber of the Footwear Industry of the State of Guanajuato (CICEG), presented the trends for the Autumn/Winter 2023 season in footwear and leather goods, in addition to being a meeting space between Mexican brands and manufacturers, with national buyers and from abroad.

On this occasion, SAPICA stood out for the level of change and innovation, as communicated by the president of the fair -Daniela Reyes de Luna-, with figures that confirmed the good expectations that she had, before the closing of the edition.

Grows in call

The Mexican fair was visited by a total of 2,755 buyers, which meant an increase of 18.6% compared to the last version of August 2022, according to data provided by the organizing entity.

Specifically, 2,614 national buyers from states such as Guanajuato, Jalisco, Mexico City and Michoacán participated, registering an increase of 20.1% compared to the previous edition.

Regarding international visitors, 141 buyers represented countries such as the United States, Guatemala, Canada, Costa Rica and Colombia, with a decrease of 4.1% in call.

Prospects and challenges for the sector

In addition to the varied exhibition offer, SAPICA was also a point of reference for learning about the situation of the footwear sector.

Within the framework of the inauguration ceremony, the new president of CICEG -Mauricio Battaglia Velázquez- affirmed that the fight against informality and piracy requires the support of the federal government, in a job that could be jointly with the Confederation of Industrial Chambers (CONCAMIN).

Within the footwear industry, Battagglia assured that it is essential to take into account the rights and needs of collaborators, in terms of working hours, health service, decent wage, among other factors.

Knowledge focused on virtuality

The Knowledge Pavilion had as its central concept "Digital Knowledge", thus selecting recognized speakers related to this discipline. For the choice of the theme, the predominant role of technology in the world of work was taken into account.

In total, 2,294 people participated, and the attendance predominated in the conferences given by Ana Marín, on "Digital brand communication"; followed by Juan Lombana, who spoke about "Tik Tok, the future of marketing"; and Oso Trava, with “Your exponential future”.

In addition, the conference cycle addressed other ideas such as extended reality, metaverse, merchandising, trends and consumption.

Internationalization of the sector and exports

The fair also dedicated a space to Shoes From Mexico, a program to promote exports of the Mexican footwear and leather goods industry, promoted by the Guanajuato Foreign Trade Promotion Coordinator (COFOCE) and CICEG.

On this occasion, Shoes From Mexico Talks joined, where the talks focused on the internationalization of the sector, among other parallel activities.

The 89th edition of SAPICA will take place between Tuesday 22nd, Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th August 2023.
