Under the #STEPPING INTO THE FUTURE, the largest event of finished products in Mexico, will take place on March 8th, 9th and 10th, 2022, at the Poliforum León, Guanajuato, with the participation of the main brands and industries of footwear and leather goods from the country, which will showcase the new collections for the Autumn-Winter 2022/23 season. By the end of the year, more than 300 brands had already registered to be part of the event. The proposal will consist of different lines of footwear: sport, dress, high fashion, sports, casuals and boots, for men, women and children.
The visit of representatives of the most important chains and shopping centers in the country is awaited, plus the presence of independent buyers from all states, in order to carry out their first orders.
No less important will be the attendance of foreign operators from Central America and the Caribbean, as well as the United States, Canada and 10 other countries, attracted by the competitiveness of Mexican products.
In this regard, the latest records of footwear exports at the end of 2021, indicated an increase of more than 57%, compared to the same period of the previous year.

The event will have all the sanitary protocols to provide maximum security to the participants, through permanent surveillance committees in corridors and stands.

As a complement to the exhibition and commercial activity, the organization of the fair has planned a series of presentations and fashion catwalks for visitors interested in learning about the latest trends in footwear and clothing.

The sector in numbers
In 2020, the production of footwear in Mexico was 165 million pairs, affected by the health crisis; while for 2021 a growth of close to 20% is expected, which could approach 200 million pairs per year, driven by the increase in exports, which in some lines of footwear have exceeded 50% compared to what was dispatched in 2020.
Of the total production, 80% is manufactured in the state of Guanajuato, whose most important industrial center is León. Throughout the country there are 13,700 manufacturing establishments, which generate 317 thousand jobs, direct and indirect.
Per capita consumption in 2020 was 1.74 pairs per year, for a total population that exceeds 127 million inhabitants.
The trade balance of the sector indicates 18.7 million exported pairs, against 72.7 of imported pairs, which represents a negative balance of 54 million pairs. In terms of turnover, exports represented US $ 413 million of income, against US $ 830 million of imports, showing a negative balance of US $ 417 million.
The main destinations for Mexican footwear exports are: the United States 86.7%, Guatemala 2.9%, El Salvador 2.4% and Spain 0.80%. Imports come from China 53%, Vietnam 24%, Indonesia 10% and Brazil 2.4%.
Footwear exports, according to the materials used, indicate that 40% are of hides or skins; 25% of synthetics; 18% waterproof and 10% of textiles.
Meanwhile, in imported products, 44.5% are of textiles; 36.4% from synthetics and 11.5% from hides or skins.
