According to the specialized press in Germany, the international brand is ready to divest itself of REEBOK at the beginning of 2021. The reason is the drop of 44% in its sales (-228 million dollars) in the second quarter of 2020, mainly in the US market. The investments made in that country were not profitable and it is difficult for ADIDAS to maintain the business, in view of the claims of its shareholders.
REEBOK was bought by ADIDAS in 2005 for US $ 3,800 million and it is estimated that at present this value has halved, although there is still no definitive sales figure.
Among those interested in its acquisition are the US group VF Corp, owner of TIMBERLAND, VANS, THE NORTH FACE, JANSPORT, NAPAPIJRI and others; and the third largest sportswear company in the world, China's Jinjiang-based ANTA SPORT, which develops, produces and markets footwear and apparel.
