The former Yoma tannery from Nonogasta -currently Curtiembre CBR-, which was in charge of a Brazilian business group, was expropriated at the end of September, due to the closure of the establishment and the serious financial situation that it had been going through for 18 months, with more than 700 workers unemployed and without receiving their wages.
Given the pressing situation and after numerous meetings between union representatives and the government of La Rioja, the intervention and its expropriation were approved through the Chamber of Deputies of the province.
According to government authorities, the measure responds to the request of the workers so that the source of employment is not definitively closed, and in the meantime to look for responsible entrepreneurs who continue with the company.
For the deputy governor of La Rioja, Ricardo Herrera, the expropriation has a double meaning: "that of public utility and social justice for workers and their families".
