Footwear union criticizes the government
The General Secretary of the Union of Footwear Industry Workers of Argentina (UTICRA), Agustín Amicone, claimed that Javier Milei's administration has created an "economic disaster," reflected in the decline of purchasing power.
In this context, the footwear sector, along with the apparel industry, has experienced a 40% to 50% drop in sales due to consumers prioritizing basic needs. Amicone noted that the government is not supportive of the industry, thus indicating his future prospects.
Amicone said that the sector is not entirely made up of national manufacturing and that is why there are imports, which have been part of the equation for some time now. Currently, the composition of a shoe is 60% imported and 40% national.
