These are estimates made by sources in the sector, based on the latest survey by CAME, the Argentine Confederation of Medium Enterprises, carried out from December 1st to 18th, 2020 in 39 cities in 23 provinces.
The report projected that during 2020, more than 90,000 businesses in various sectors closed, affecting 41,200 SMEs and 185,000 workers. In the average country, the report confirms a closure of 9 stores per block.
This mass disappearance was due to the deep crisis caused pandemic Covid-19 and its implications, where the commercial sector of footwear and apparel was the most punished in order of priorities established in consumption during the health crisis.
The most affected states by the closures were: Chubut 34%, Córdoba 25.4%, Neuquén 25.2%, Tierra del Fuego 21.2% and Santa Cruz 18.8%.
Regarding the location of the points of sale that permanently closed their doors, the galleries and shopping centers were the places that suffered the greatest desertion.
A note that the survey mentions is that in many medium and small cities in the country, where there is greater knowledge among its inhabitants, many locals and SMEs closed and went informal. Thus, many began to sell from their private homes or networks, taking advantage of its customers and the community know them and quickly locate their new point or selling arrangement.
