Raw bovine and sheep leather sold abroad will stop paying withholdings. This was decreed by Miguel Etchevere -Secretary of Agroindustry of the previous government- in order to improve exports in the sector. The decision was made in mid-December, that is, at the time of transfer of national authorities.
The measure will last until December 31, 2021 and will cover two million pieces. It will not influence the Export Right, where each dollar exported has a withholding of $ 3 and $ 4.
The argument that supports this initiative would be the lower international competitiveness and a retracted livestock sector, product of export taxes, as indicated in the decree.
For its part, the national footwear and leather goods industry demand that a certain volume of leather be guaranteed for local manufacturing, business leaders said.
