More data on production and consumption

The control of imports on finished products has favored the development of local factories.

As of July 2021, the Argentine footwear industry manufactured 62 million pairs, which translated into a positive variation of 51,2%, compared to the 41 million that were recorded in the same months of 2020. The increase was result of the lack of foreign exchange for the entry of foreign products -finished footwear, materials, components, etc.- and because the national government increased tariff protection, according to data provided by IES Consultores.

In another order, per capita consumption registered figures similar to those of 2018, with an increase of 43,6% between January-July of this year, thus reaching 2.8 pairs per capita.

Finally, apparent consumption had a 45,2% growth, reaching 73.8 million pairs in the same period. Imports accounted for 16,4% of apparent consumption, a fall resulting from substitution by domestic manufacturing and entry restrictions, reported ámbito.com.
