Retail shoe sales: Decline by 12.5%

This is in the first four months of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.

In a scenario of recessionary consumption, footwear experienced sales declines, but to a lesser extent than other sectors.

According to the latest data released by CAME (Argentine Confederation of Medium-sized Enterprises), in the first days of May 2024, retail sales of footwear SMEs accumulated a 12.5% decrease during the first four months of 2024 compared to the previous year.

Only in April 2024, they decreased by 2.4% compared to the same month in 2023.

Based on the measurements, the FOOTWEAR and LEATHER GOODS sector does not seem to have suffered such pronounced declines as in other sectors.

Such is the case of pharmacies, which decreased their sales by 31.3% in the first four months of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. They were followed by Perfumery with 31.1%; Food and Beverages, with 23.8%; Hardware Stores, 22.5%; and Household Goods Store, 17.6%.

The average of all sectors indicated a total decrease in the retail sales index for the first four months of 2024 of -18.4%. Comparing April 2024 with the same month in 2023, the drop was 7.3% year-on-year.
