Sector opinions about the Agreement

Argentine leaders from the sector considered very important to determine the rules of origin of products from Europe.

In front of the decision between the commercial blocks, from the Chamber of the Footwear Industry (CIC) of Buenos Aires they considered that in the section of the rules of origin there is a discrepancy between the parties. The European Union would seek to implement a price threshold that, in the words of Horacio Moschetto, secretary of the Chamber, would not exclude the aggregate of components from Asia. On the other hand, from Mercosur it advocates footwear with 60% regional origin, according to La Nación.

Beyond the discussion, the president of the Chamber of Footwear of Córdoba -Miguel Hames- said that the agreement “can be beneficial” and the sector could access a greater consumer market.

In this regard, he assured that the Argentine industry has quality technology and materials (leather) to produce good footwear.
