SME sales not recovering

The drop in footwear consumption exceeds 20% compared to the previous year.

The Argentine Confederation of Medium-Sized Enterprises (CAME) revealed in its SME Retail Sales Index that the FOOTWEAR AND LEATHER GOODS sector contracted by 20.8% in January 2024 compared to the same month of the previous year. The most significant decline was seen in sports senakers, with low-value shoes prevailing.

In February, there was an even sharper decline of 21.4%. During this month, affordable products dominated the market, and there was a reuse of models from previous seasons in other types of footwear.

The negative variation for March was 5.9%, with sales of sports and school shoes. Thus, the first quarter of the year ended with a 16% year-on-year decline.
