Tariff reduction also rejected by footwear industry
In response to the new tariff reduction on footwear imports, the Argentine Federation of the Footwear and Related Industries (FAICA) expressed concern about the impact this measure could have on formal employment and local production.
Industry representatives argue that the decision worsens an already challenging scenario marked by tax pressure, high operating costs, informal competition, and smuggling. Business chambers have requested dialogue with the government and fair competition conditions to protect jobs and strengthen productive activity.
According to their statements, the market opening would not necessarily ensure lower consumer prices but could increase dependence on imported products and result in setbacks in job creation.
