TEKNOR shuts down and TOPPER halts operations

The crisis in the Argentine footwear industry deepened at TOPPER, where 1,190 workers were suspended.

At the end of May, TEKNOR, a producer of safety footwear located in the industrial park of La Rioja, closed its doors, resulting in 17 employees losing their jobs. These workers had been with the company for 2 to 3 years.

According to Saúl Carrizo, General Secretary of UTICRA's La Rioja branch, the company had been up-to-date with its obligations, with around 40% of salaries covered by state aid. Despite this, the decline in sales led to the cessation of operations.

In Tucumán, 120 employees of TOPPER, a manufacturer of footwear and sportswear, were laid off between March and April. Subsequently, vacations were imposed on longer-serving employees, and by mid-July, 1,190 workers were suspended from the payroll. According to the company's management, the reason given was overstock.
