Owners of shoe stores and independent shops, mainly from the metropolitan area of Buenos Aires dedicated to the sale of footwear, demanded that it be extended to the entire country, the initiative of some Buenos Aires municipalities to prohibit, for the duration of the quarantine, the sale of non-essential products in large supermarket chains.
This includes footwear and clothing items, that in supermarkets continue to sell normally, while a large part of shoe stores and independent stores remain closed.
For the Federation of Commerce and Industry of Buenos Aires -FECOBA- which groups stores of the sector “there is an evident commercial disadvantage. When we can reopen we will no longer have anyone to sell to", said in a statement, adding that "at a time when SMEs are going through serious restrictions to sell our products, it is inconceivable that supermarkets can do so, further damaging the sector's chances of recovery", the entity said.
It is to highlight that the prohibition for the sale of footwear and clothing, until now in force only in some districts, is valid until July 17, the end of another phase of the quarantine.
