The presentation led by the Chamber of the Footwear Industry of Buenos Aires with the support of manufacturers from all over the country, concluded successfully after a year and a half of investigation and legal proceedings before the Ministry of Productive Development, which determined an increase of the anti-dumping measure setting a minimum FOB of USD 15.70/pair, for Chinese footwear for five years from mid-December 2021.
The decision is intended to curb the entry of Chinese footwear at prices lower than in the country of origin. This is dumping, an unfair commercial practice rejected by international organizations -WTO-, through which sales are made below normal prices, in order to eliminate competition and take over a market.
In this way, each pair of Chinese shoes will not be able to enter Argentina for less than US $ 15.70. This value was previously US $ 13.38.
In its statements, the National Foreign Trade Commission -CNCE- which implemented the antidumping procedures, warned that "the domestic footwear industry is in a situation of relative fragility that could make it vulnerable to the eventual abolition of the current measure".
