Alberto Fernández's mandate keeps those who make up the Union of Footwear Industry Workers of the Republic of Argentina (UTICRA) hopeful, as stated his general secretary -Agustín Amicone- in an interview with the newspaper El Intransigente. In addition, he said that the reactivation of the local market is the most important, but that getting out of the crisis will take time.
The current situation of the sector is marked by the fall in consumption, added to imports, which resulted in the loss of 12 thousand jobs. Production also underwent modifications over the years. From 2005 until today, the assembly of shoes by outsourced firms prevails, which differs from the manufacture of predominantly synthetic or leather footwear from previous years.
