358 thousand pairs stopped on the Argentine border

Reported by Brazilian footwear manufacturers, who request measures that allow their immediate entry.

The Argentine Customs, a key point to resolve the Brazilian claim, based on the policies implemented by the Argentine government.

According to ABINFORMA, the official news agency of ABICALÇADOS, the entity that represents the footwear industries in Brazil, "after four years of relative tranquility, bilateral trade with Argentina is again shaken in 2020".

As reported, there are already more than 358 thousand pairs of footwear stopped at the border and prevented from entering Argentine territory due to the delay in import licenses.

"The term has already exceeded the 60 days recommended by the World Trade Organization -WTO-", alerted the executive president of ABICALÇADOS, Haroldo Ferreira. In total, according to the survey, more than 847 thousand pairs of footwear exported to Argentina are waiting to be released. "It is very likely, taking into account the need of the Argentine government to ensure dollars in the country, that the delays will continue", lamented Ferreira.

At the end of October, the leader of ABICALÇADOS met with the Argentine ambassador to Brazil, Daniel Scioli, in Porto Alegre/RS who was informed about this situation.

“We reported the problem and the claim was forwarded. We have no promise of a solution, but we are going to continue fighting for the release of the products, as we are starting a strong sales period, which are the end of the year celebrations", the leader stressed.

Argentina is the second main destination for Brazilian footwear abroad. From January to October 2020, 6.2 million pairs were shipped that generated US $ 60.1 million, which represents a decrease of 25.2% in volume and 33.2% in turnover, compared to the same period last year.
