Asian products affect employment

Local sector leaders warn about the consequences of the increased influx of imported products.

According to Haroldo Ferreira, executive president of ABICALÇADOS, undervalued Chinese footwear has affected Brazil's retail trade by generating unfair competition.

The problem became visible after China lifted pandemic restrictions; while the invasion of its footwear, and Asia in general, could cause layoffs due to the collapse of the local industry.

Ferreira argued: "Without demand, the national industry will stop producing, resulting in the unemployment of people who depend on the activity", as reported by ABICALÇADOS.
