Brazil on alert over foreign trade
With negative indicators regarding the volume of footwear exported and positive in terms of the influx of shoes into the Brazilian market, there is a sense of unease among industry entrepreneurs.
ABICALÇADOS highlights the positive performance China is having in global trade. "The external market, in addition to being quite unstable, is being flooded with Chinese shoes, unfairly competing with any other producing country in the world," said Haroldo Ferreira, executive president of the organization.
Recently, the Asian giant has increased its exports to Latin America, a key region for Brazil. According to Ferreira, "The Asian giant is devouring our market on the continent."
There is also growing concern in the industry over the rumor of a free trade agreement between China and Mercosur.
