According to data prepared by the Brazilian Association of Companies of Components for Leather, Footwear and Manufactured Goods -ASSINTECAL-, between January and September 2022, the sector exported the equivalent of US$ 331.9 million, 22% more than in the same period last year and 21% more than in the corresponding pre-pandemic interval in 2019. Disaggregating just the month of September, component exports generated US$ 40.13 million, 36% more than in the corresponding month of 2021.
Luiz Ribas Júnior, manager of the entity's international market, pointed out that exports to Latin American countries have been decisive in obtaining positive results. "Today, of the ten main destinations of components abroad, six are from Latin America", he said. In addition to Latin American neighbors, who have been substituting imports from China for Brazilian ones to escape high freight costs, shipments to the United States also stood out, a country that assumed fourth position among the main international destinations. "The average growth of exports to Latin America and the United States is almost 37%, well above global growth (+22%)", he noted.
Between January and September 2022, US$ 71.9 million were shipped to the neighboring country, 42% more than in the same period last year.
The second destination was China, which in the same period imported US$ 65.3 million, mainly in chemical products for leather.
The third largest buyer of Brazilian materials and components was Portugal (US$ 44.13 million and growth of 48% compared to 2021) and the fourth was the United States (US$ 8.5 million and growth of 58% compared to 2021).
In first place were chemicals for leather (US$ 153.4 million); then uppers (US$ 88.3 million); chemicals for footwear and adhesives (US$ 38.2 million) and soles (US$ 21.6 million).
