Employment increased in the footwear sector

At the end of 2022, the Brazilian footwear industry ended with more than 310,000 direct jobs.

Between January and October 2022, the Brazilian footwear industry generated 43.5 thousand jobs, according to data provided by the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, prepared and disseminated by ABICALÇADOS.

Compared to the same months of 2021, an increase of 12% was registered, reaching 309,700 direct jobs; while compared to 2019, the increase was 8.8%.

Rio Grande do Sul was the main employer state, growing 8.4% and totaling 85.2 thousand workers; followed by Ceará, with +12.7% and 70.4 thousand jobs. For its part, Bahia increased 25.2% with 44.5 thousand employees and São Paulo had a positive variation of 13.6%, reaching 36.2 thousand workers.

“With the lower volume of orders, production is lower. In the coming months we will face a slowdown in the economy, both in the internal and external markets, caused by macroeconomic factors such as the international crisis and the increase in inflation. Even so, we should close 2022 with a production 3.9% higher than last year”, explained Haroldo Ferreira -executive president of the entity-.
