Footwear exports declined
From January to August of this year, the Brazilian footwear industry sold a total of 82.2 million pairs abroad, reaching US$ 823.1 million, according to figures provided by SECEX.
This represented a 15.7% drop in volume and a 6.6% decrease in value compared to the same eight months in 2022. However, compared to exports in 2019 (pre-pandemic), there were positive variations of 9.2% and 26.7%, respectively, reported ABICALÇADOS.
Some factors influencing the decline in exports include high-interest rates, the global economic recession, and reduced demand from countries relevant to the national industry, according to Haroldo Ferreira, the executive president of the entity.
