In the first eight months of 2022, foreign sales of Brazilian footwear reached a volume of 97.5 million pairs and a value of US$ 880.8 million. In relation to the previous year, variations were positive in 29.7% and 62.7% respectively.
It is noteworthy that, compared to the same months of 2019 (pre-pandemic), the quantity of what was exported grew by 29.4%, while the value was 35.6% higher, according to data prepared and disseminated by the Brazilian Footwear Industries Association (
ABICALÇADOS).
For his part, Haroldo Ferreira -executive president of the entity-, detailed some factors in the context of exports, such as the average price of footwear, which stood at US$ 11 compared to the previous value above US$ 8 ; and the increase in sales to Latin American countries.
Main markets
The United States is the most important destination for Brazilian footwear exports. In the aforementioned period, increases of 57.2% in quantity (14.3 million pairs) and 84.6% in value (US$ 246.3 million) were registered.
In Argentina, the 11.7 million pairs translated into an increase of 50.9%, while the US$ 127.4 million meant an increase of 84%. The results are given within the framework of the imposition of 180 days by the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic, in order to later be able to make the payment of what is imported, also added to the internal crisis in the country.
With more moderate increases, France was positioned in third place, with +15% (5 million pairs) and +11.4% (US$ 43.7 million).
