Neymar’s return boosts PUMA football boot sales by 30%


Another example of the influence football and its stars have on sportswear sales.

The Brazilian star’s return to his home club, Santos, has strengthened PUMA’s market positioning in football.

Neymar’s return to Brazilian football had a positive impact on several sectors of the economy. A study conducted by consultancy firm Neotrust Confi analyzed the evolution of football product sales in e-commerce before and after the announcement.

According to the report, PUMA, Neymar’s sponsor, saw a 31.4% increase in online football boot sales between January 24 (pre-campaign) and February 4, when the player’s move to Santos was officially confirmed.

Additionally, Santos jerseys tripled in sales during this period.

The endorsement deal between Neymar and PUMA is the largest football sponsorship agreement in the world, surpassing those of Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo (CR7). The Brazilian forward will receive €26 million per year as the ambassador for the German brand.

Previously, Neymar had been sponsored by UMBRO and NIKE in other teams where he played.
