Online platforms: the claim of footwear manufacturers and suppliers
Currently, international e-commerce platforms benefit from a tax exemption for imports with a value below US$ 50, and whose recipient is an individual.
In response to this situation, both ABICALÇADOS and ASSINTECAL petitioned the Supreme Federal Court for a precautionary measure, filing a direct action of unconstitutionality.
The objective of these entities is to protect both sectors from a measure that benefits foreign companies' trade and imported goods, disadvantaging local production and sales.
Regarding this matter, Haroldo Ferreira, the executive president of the footwear association, stated: "Given that consumption apparently grows faster than production, it is obvious that imports are the vector to increase consumption, to the detriment of national production," as reported by ABICALÇADOS.
