According to the latest data prepared by ABICALÇADOS, the Brazilian Association of Footwear Industries, in October 2020 10.4 million pairs were shipped, worth US $ 55.4 million. This meant an increase of 28.6% in volume and 4.8% in dollars compared to September 2020.
In the accumulated in the ten months of the year, footwear exports totaled 74.9 million pairs and US $ 545.3 million, losses of 22.3% in volume and 33.6% in turnover compared to the same period of 2019.
The executive president of ABICALÇADOS, Haroldo Ferreira, highlights that there is a recovery underway in the international market, but that it will not be enough to reverse the decline recorded throughout the year, especially in the first semester.
"The year should close with an approximate loss of 27% in shipments," he projected, highlighting that the trend is for a substantial recovery from 2021.
Between January and October 2020, the main destination for Brazilian footwear abroad was the United States, which imported 7.7 million pairs for US $ 118 million, which represented a decrease of 24% in volume and 30.7% in value compared to the same period last year.
The second largest importer of Brazilian footwear was Argentina, where 6.2 million pairs were shipped for US $ 60.1 million, a decrease of 25.2% in volume and 33.2% in amount, compared to the same period last year.
The third destination in 2020 was France, to which 5.6 million pairs were shipped, worth US $ 45.9 million, a decrease of 10.3% in quantity and 1.9% in turnover, compared to the same period in 2019.
