The commercial reactivation contained the layoffs in the industry

In the period between the end of March and mid-June, 36,2 thousand layoffs were registered. This translates into around 13% of job losses compared to December 2019 figures, when 269 thousand jobs were counted.
In this sense, there was a volume close to 250 layoffs in the last week, according to information revealed in mid-June by ABICALÇADOS. Of that total, São Paulo lost 105 workers and Rio Grande do Sul, 102.
The reactivation of retail activity in shopping centers favored the balance in the loss of jobs, according to Haroldo Ferreira, executive president of the entity. In addition, he added: "The footwear sector depends a lot on the domestic market, especially on physical retail trade, which represents more than 85% of our total sales," reported from ABICALÇADOS.
