Shopping tours for foreign visitors no longer benefit from a favorable exchange rate when paying with the equivalent of the tourist dollar. Under the government of Javier Milei, the prices of many products, some of which were previously capped, have increased.
As a result, the Argentine market has become less attractive to foreign buyers, reversing the trend and prompting Argentinians to shop in Chile. In this context, the exchange rate variation between the Chilean peso and the dollar is favorable for Argentinians to purchase footwear, clothing, technology, and other items.
This was demonstrated at the end of March, during the Easter celebrations, when thousands of Argentine consumers crossed the border in search of better deals compared to the high prices in the local market.
