According to data extracted from the APPICAPS World Footwear 2021 Yearbook, footwear production in 2020 fell 15,8% compared to 2019, due to the effects of the pandemic. It went from 24.3 billion pairs to 20.5 billion per year.
The largest consumer by region was Asia with 55,8%, followed by Europe with 13,6%, North America with 13,1%, Africa with 10,9% and South America with 5,8%.
Within countries, China consumed 20,8% of total production, with 3.942 million pairs; followed by India with 10,6% and 2.006 million, and the United States with 9,6% and 1.830 million pairs.
The largest footwear producers in the world during 2020 were: China with 11.118 million pairs; India with 2.080 million; Vietnam with 1.320 million, Indonesia with 1.036 million and Brazil with 764 million pairs.
