Leather industry facing challenges in 2023
Chen Zhan Guang, Vice President of the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA), reported that in 2022, exports of finished leather footwear reached 720 million pairs, valued at $11.46 billion. This represented an increase of 7.8% in volume and 14.9% in value compared to the previous year. On the other hand, imports experienced a decrease of 0.2% in volume and 0.8% in value.
For 2023, the leader stated that the sector will have to face the threat of stagflation, geopolitical conflicts, protectionism, environmental regulations, changes in habits, a slow economic recovery, and global uncertainty, as reported by APLF.
