Leather industry facing challenges in 2023

The footwear industry in the East will also be affected by various critical situations on a global scale.

Chen Zhan Guang, Vice President of the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA), reported that in 2022, exports of finished leather footwear reached 720 million pairs, valued at $11.46 billion. This represented an increase of 7.8% in volume and 14.9% in value compared to the previous year. On the other hand, imports experienced a decrease of 0.2% in volume and 0.8% in value.

For 2023, the leader stated that the sector will have to face the threat of stagflation, geopolitical conflicts, protectionism, environmental regulations, changes in habits, a slow economic recovery, and global uncertainty, as reported by APLF.
