2023 started with negative indicators
The Monthly Manufacturing Survey with a Territorial Approach (EMMET) determined that real production in the footwear and leather industries had negative variations in January 2023 compared to the same month of the previous year. Specifically, the category of "Tanning and retanning of leather; retanning and dyeing of hides" experienced a decline in all variables.
Regarding 2022, footwear manufacturing showed increases in production, employment and sales (16%, 14.2%, and 19.9%), in contrast to the disparity in hides and skins (-8.4%, 0.4%, and -10%) and the growth in leather goods (4.4%, 5.4%, and 2.6%), as reported by the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE).
