Colombia strengthens customs control over imported footwear

New government measures guarantee stricter customs control on footwear imports.

Aiming to improve import procedures and reduce risks associated with irregular practices, the Colombian government has implemented new rules for footwear entering the country.

Under Decree 0214, issued on February 27, 2025, the thresholds that are part of rigorous customs controls were adjusted, a measure promoted by the Colombian Association of Footwear, Leather and its Manufactured Goods Industrialists (ACICAM).

In this context, when declared values fall below the established limit, documentation must be provided to justify the merchandise price.

This tool, part of a risk management strategy, seeks to prevent technical smuggling and under-invoicing, and aims to ensure fairer competition conditions for the local industry, regardless of the country of origin of the products, ACICAM reported.
