The Colombian Association of Footwear, Leather and its Manufactured Goods Industrialists (ACICAM) expressed concern about the renegotiation of the Free Trade Agreement between Colombia and the United States. In this regard, the association supports the maintenance of market access conditions, both in terms of tariffs and rules of origin.
Specifically for the footwear and leather goods sector, ACICAM claims that the agreement has been very beneficial. For example, shoe exports totaled US$ 1.3 million in 2011, and by 2022, they had reached US$ 9.5 million in that market.
The treaty has been in effect since May 2012, with tariff lines on footwear and leather goods reduced at the moment and others gradually until January 2021, according to ACICAM.
