Serious difficulties for the commercial sector
The National Federation of Merchants (FENALCO) announced a challenging situation in sales across various sectors in January of this year, including footwear and clothing. According to reports, these sectors implemented promotions and discounts to overcome the prevailing context.
Overall, sales for the month remained the same for 47% of those surveyed by the organization, while 33% reported declines compared to January 2023.
Regarding the February results, FENALCO President Jaime Alberto Cabal stated: "A dismal balance compared to the last three months and the worst February since 2017," attributed to reduced consumption among Colombians.
Thus, 50% of business owners confirmed they had the same sales, while a contraction affected 34%.
