Editorial - Politics and industry

Two concepts together for joint action boost private and state activities for the welfare of countries and their inhabitants.

However, due to a biased perception built by a long-standing culture, the term “politics” often tends to degrade and associate with guiltiness. Of course, it is not like that.

Politics itself is not guilty, rather the alteration of its content and essence when it does not respond to a normal and equitable development of societies.

In this context, and for decades, the industry of many countries in the region is still pending definitive, lasting and coherent policies to determine a clear and precise path for its development.

This is the case of different manufacturing industries in Latin America which historically had intermittent and erratic behaviors.

Currently, the footwear industry in the region has sufficient natural and human resources to aspire to a better positioning in the global market.

Only “adequate policies” agreed between government and industry are needed, to promote greater insertion of the sector in the current international scenario.

The great advances in communications and technologies facilitate its viability, especially due to greater access to information and knowledge, a fundamental factor generating new opportunities.

Under such conditions, the world manufacturing market contemplates a space for Latin American industry. It is the responsibility of governments and authorities, together with leaders and businessmen, to DEFINITELY establish “adequate policies” for the sector moves towards SUSTAINED GROWTH.
