Footwear recorded more sales abroad

German footwear exports (mostly not domestically produced) reached a total value of € 5.2 billion in the first half of 2024, representing a 1.96% increase compared to the same period in the previous year.

Within Europe, the main export markets for German footwear are France and Poland, according to data from the Federal Statistical Office in Wiesbaden.

Imports, on the other hand, fell by 7.5%, amounting to € 5.8 billion in the same period. The largest suppliers were Italy, Vietnam, China, and India, with Vietnam showing the best performance, possibly driven by sports footwear, spurred by interest in the Olympic Games or the Euro Cup, as reported by the Federal Association of the German Footwear and Leather Goods Industry (HDS/L).
