Foreign trade recovered in 2022
The exports of footwear from Germany reached € 9.6 billion in 2022, representing a 19.4% increase compared to € 8.04 billion in 2021. The majority of shipments consist of products from other origins. The main markets for exported footwear were France and Poland, according to data from the Federal Statistical Office.
On the other hand, imports showed a 27.7% increase, totaling €14.3 billion in 2022. China was the largest supplier of footwear to Germany, with a 44% increase, followed by Vietnam. Among European countries, Italy stood out as the most prominent, as reported by the Federal Association of the German Footwear and Leather Goods Industry (HDS/L).
