Born in San Mauro Pascoli in 1935, in the Emilia-Romagna area, he inherited the trade from his shoemaker father. In 1951 he opened his first store in his native municipality. In 1968, the first official collection with the SERGIO ROSSI brand appeared, which among the specialized press was synonymous of Italian quality and refined feminine classic design.
His activity as an independent businessman was until 1999, when he decided to sell his brand to the GUCCI group. This operation allowed its expansion to the best shopping centers around the world, where it is recognized as one of the best of the international fashion of footwear.
Later, he had a step through the real estate market, without the expected results, and he resumed the family passion for luxury shoes, through his son Gianvito, owner of the GIANVITO ROSSI brand.
Between 2007 and 2013, Sergio Rossi was president of CERCAL, the international fashion footwear school, where future designers are trained and is a world reference point for learning the trade. The current president of the entity, Cesare Casadei, said: “Sergio has been a creative, enlightened and a great stylist who has taken the San Mauro shoe to the highest levels in the world. With his disappearance, we lose one of the founders of our district. Without him, today we all feel poorer. "
