Italian footwear exports decline
From January to May 2024, Italian footwear exports saw a 6.8% decline in volume and an 8.5% drop in value compared to the same period in the previous year, according to a report by the Confindustria Accessori Moda Research Centre, as shared by Assocalzaturifici.
Exports to countries within the European Union experienced slight negative variations, in contrast to a sharper decline in non-EU markets.
“The phase of weak demand, worsened by a reduced willingness of consumers to purchase, the slowdown in several economies (not only China), and the uncertainty stemming from geopolitical turmoil in different parts of the world, has significantly affected orders, even in the luxury segment,” stated the organization’s president, Giovanna Ceolini.
