According to ASSOCALZATURIFICI (the Italian Footwear Manufacturers' Association), while production experienced a 5.7% decline in the first half of 2023, revenue increased by 7.4%. Regarding household spending, there was a 3.4% contraction in quantity and a 1.2% contraction in value.
"The widely expected slowdown finally materialized in the second quarter of the current year", stated Giovanna Ceolini, the president of the association. She detailed that the recovery in 2021, which continued into the following year, resulted in a recession in 2023.
On the other hand, exports totaled 87.9 million pairs between January and May, marking a 6.8% decrease, while the value increased by 10.2%. The average price per pair saw an increase of 18.2%, reaching € 62.47, according to the Confindustria Moda Research Centre.
