During a meeting held at CICEG’s headquarters, representatives from the leather-footwear-supply chain addressed critical sector issues with Altagracia Gómez Sierra, coordinator of the Economic Development Advisory Council.
The delegation, composed of business leaders from Guanajuato and Jalisco, along with state and municipal authorities, presented an overview of the current situation: ongoing tax evasion and under-invoicing, increased imports from Vietnam following restrictions on China, and over 6,300 jobs lost in Guanajuato.
While acknowledging the federal government’s support through preliminary countervailing duties and the Mexico Plan, the sector requested progress on three fronts: actions against tax evasion and piracy, control over the IMMEX program in footwear, and definitive duties against Chinese dumping, according to CICEG.
