CITES lifts restrictions that would affect exotic boots
Due to the lack of a compliance action plan for the care of the vaquita marina and the totoaba (native fish), the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) suggested that member countries not trade the various species listed in its Appendix with Mexico.
The former CEO of CICEG, Alejandro Gómez Tamez, stated that companies manufacturing boots in Guanajuato, made with exotic leather, had their containers stopped and were expecting further difficulties.
However, in mid-April, Mexico's Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources announced that the Action Plan had been accepted by CITES, thus eliminating the trade restrictions that were previously recommended.
