Concern about import taxes

The Mexican footwear industry is protected for six months, with import taxes on shoes reaching between 25% and 30%. However, in November these rates would decrease to a limit of 20%, for nations which Mexico does not have a free trade agreement.

For this reason, the Chamber of Footwear Industry of Guanajuato -CICEG- held a meeting with the Ministry of Economy on June 18th, in order to conduct a technical review at the local level.

From the institution, they believe producers would have less profitability, because manufacturing costs continue increasing, and importers would demand lower prices to buy local products.

From the government it was suggested to initiate an anti-dumping action, but the footwear entity considers it complicated, reported from CICEG.
